Karl having funHi I’m Karl Welsch, Principal Photographer and Owner of Welsch Photography.

I photographed my first wedding more than 10 years ago and was hooked. At the time, I had recently built a darkroom for Bec, my Wife, and we were spending a lot of time experimenting with black and white printing. My sister, who had just got engaged thought it might be mutually beneficial if we photographed her wedding. We thought the photos were pretty good at the time and most of all, we loved it.  Soon after, Bec and I were happily engaged and struggling to find a photographer whose work we really loved natural, candid and someone who could tell a story. We eventually did find that photographer who then inspired us to take our own journey in a world we love – weddings.  We are so privileged to have backstage access at weddings and meet so many amazing couples and their families.

We are an award winning photography studio and members of The Australian Institute of Professional Photography. We have been featured in magazines such as Bride to Be, Complete Wedding Magazine, Luxury Weddings, BRIDE, The Knot (when it was a magazine) and blogs such as Rock’n’Roll Bride, The Knot, Crimson Bride, Polka Dot Bride, Style Me Pretty.

Welsch photography is located in Leichhardt, which is in the Inner West region of Sydney. Our photography studio is easily accessible by car, bus and 10 minute walk from the train station.

We are available for consultations during business hours, several evenings during the week, and weekends wherever possible and if we aren’t photographing a wedding.

We have great connections throughout the wedding industry, such as venues in Sydney that we’ve photographed at, suppliers that we’ve worked with and various other services that we’ve come across in the line of work.

Let me start with Deckhouse in Woolwich – http://www.deckhousewoolwich.com.au We’ve photographed at this gorgeous Sydney Harbour venue many times, and we are proud to be one of their preferred suppliers. The staff and wedding planners at Deckhouse work very hard to ensure their weddings run smoothly and on time. It’s always a pleasure for us to be the chosen photographer at a Deckhouse wedding because we know the couple will be having the time of their lives, while being in a stunning Sydney venue with harbour views across to the city.

Talking about harbour views, we are also proud to be considered preferred suppliers for wedding photography on board the Starship and Pontoon harbour cruise ships – http://www.starshipsydney.com.au Again we’ve provided wedding photography for couples on board these wonderful ships many times, and we know that Sydney Harbour is a stunning backdrop for a wedding to be held against. On both ships, the service is fantastic because the staff are actually happy to be there. We thoroughly enjoy an evening on Sydney Harbour, and as photographers there’s limitless opportunities for beautiful wedding photographs no matter where the ship is.

I’d like to mention our standing within the wedding photography industry here in Australia. The Australian Institute of Professional Photography is the body that many wedding, portrait, sports and fine art photographers are members of. We are members because their purpose is to advance the professionalism of photography, and we believe that being a part of the Institute and participating in education, workshops, events and competitions is how we define ourselves as professionals. Go to the AIPP’s Find a Pro section on their website, you’ll find me there. And you might find some awards I’ve won along the way. These probably mean more to me than they would to a client, but they show I’m trying to get better each year while maintaining a high standard of work along the way.
